GÄNGEVIERTEL HAMBURG - Als Gängeviertel wurden in Hamburg die besonders eng bebauten Wohnquartiere in einigen Teilen der Altstadt und Neustadt bezeichnet. Die Gängeviertel waren größtenteils mit Fachwerkhäusern bebaut, deren Wohnungen zumeist nur durch schmale Straßen, zum Teil verwinkelte oder labyrinthartige Hinterhöfe, Torwege und die namensgebenden Gänge zwischen den Häusern zu erreichen waren.
